About us

We have been in a Companion Diocese relationship with the Diocese of El Salvador for more than twenty years.

Who are we? What do we do?

We have been in a Companion Diocese relationship with the Diocese of El Salvador for more than twenty years and have exchanged pilgrims both ways – the numbers are in the hundreds. We currently have two sets of sister parishes and three more are developing. By far the largest annual effort goes into the Mission of Miracles (our medical mission). Thirty medical and nursing volunteers and others join up with twenty Salvadorans to provide medical, dental and mental health care and health education to more than five hundred patients in five rural villages. Other significant ministries include a weekly prayer cycle that includes every parish by name twice a year, youth pilgrimages most every summer, Habitat work weeks recently every year, short term personal missions, and exchange of representatives at diocesan conventions. The work of Foundation Cristosal began with this diocesan partnership; Cristosal continue to expand its mission, working with the Diocese of El Salvador and independently developing programs in human rights and advocacy. Although the country is being ravaged by gang violence, our diocese continues to nurture old and develop new relationships with our companions there.
